Pastoral Care We believe in the biblical teaching that a Christian community is to care for one another. With this in mind we encourage all members to be pray for one another and to help and encourage one another where practical. As a congregation we offer educational material on various aspects of pastoral care and this is available to all who wish
to receive it. We have a group of members who belong to a prayer chain that faithfully prays for others who request it. A pastoral care team has been formed to make sure that everyone is included and that no-one slips through the creaks because of our busy city lifestyle. The group has representatives of various age groups. We seek to encourage peer support as an important
means of care within the congregation. As a result we are developing a young family support network, seniors’ ministry, youth ministry and a visiting team. Members with various expertise also offer their time to help others. To supplement this we also have two pastors both with 30 years of experience in pastoring. They are available to discuss the Christian walk, pre-marital counselling and other life issues from a Christian perspective.
Our community goals are listed below: The Church Gathered Serves the Church Scattered. Mission: The church supports each member in his/her
spheres of influence. Goals: To simplify and do what is essential - recognising that doing church is not an end in itself. To connect members to one another and to contributing to the church and to the wider community. Community Values: Mat. 11: 28-30 “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light.” 1. Focus
on God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, not on personalities – giving the honour, praise and thanksgiving God is worthy of. 2. Ministry of all believers– each according to his/her gifts and according to the needs of the community -- recognizing that pastoral care is the responsibility of every church member. 3. Each member is equal and important and included. 4. Pastoral care is not to impose on individual’s conscience – not lords over people’s faith but helpers of their joy – helping to lift burdens. 5. Encourage peer support
6. To support each person’s passion – particularly what is done outside the four walls of the church. 7. Humility with regards to beliefs, recognizing that we all always have so much to learn and understand and grow in our character. |
